Why Nokkela

A partner, not just a provider

Independence here has a concrete meaning: we take no vendor commissions, so our product advice is not driven by what pays best, and we use open source wherever it is the stronger option. Hosted systems run on our own infrastructure in Europe – GDPR-compliant, NIS2- and ISO-27001-oriented, not certified.

Independent

No vendor commissions. We recommend what fits you – strategic open-source use across the value chain.

European & sovereign

Our own infrastructure in Europe – GDPR-compliant, NIS2- and ISO-27001-oriented. Your data stays in Europe. Oriented means our operations and documentation follow the structure of both – we are certified under neither.

Accountable

Dedicated contacts instead of an anonymous hotline: we usually reply within one business day – and the people who answer are the ones who run your systems.

How we work

Four steps to results

The initial consultation is a free, non-binding conversation of up to 30 minutes; three steps follow – analysis, concept, then delivery and operations – and the concept sets out cost and timeline in writing before implementation starts. We usually reply to an enquiry within one business day.

Initial talk

Free & non-binding – we understand your goal.

Analysis

Current state, risks, potential, a clear recommendation.

Concept

A tailored solution with cost and timeline.

Delivery & operations

Implementation, training and ongoing support.

Frequent questions

What clients ask before the first project

Below are the questions we are asked most often before a first project: what Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH does, where data is stored, how we stand on ISO 27001 and NIS2, how on-premise AI works and how an engagement starts. Each answer is written to stand on its own.

What does Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH do?

Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH is a German IT company based in Kronach that combines four disciplines under one roof: IT infrastructure, IT security, AI services and IT consulting. It advises on, builds, secures and operates those systems – from procurement and virtualisation through firewalling and monitoring to on-premise AI. The company is entered in the commercial register at Coburg Local Court (Amtsgericht Coburg) under HRB 7780, D-U-N-S 317285761, VAT ID DE464043147; the managing directors are Daniel Plominski and Manuela Plominski.

What services does Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH offer?

Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH works in four service areas. IT infrastructure means managed and hosted services, on-premise systems, virtualisation and backup; IT security means security assessments, SOC and monitoring, SIEM and a VPN concentrator. AI services run from potential and cost-benefit analysis to on-premise AI with open-weights models and AI agents, while IT consulting covers strategy, architecture, migrations and compliance. Infrastructure projects include procurement, configuration and data-centre integration with five years of support. Each area can be commissioned on its own or as one package.

How are nokkela.ai, nokkela.cloud and nokkela.host related to Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH?

All nokkela domains, from nokkela.ai to nokkela.systems, are operated by Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH – one legal entity, one contracting party. The GmbH is the hub; each domain covers one focused area: nokkela.systems for IT infrastructure, nokkela.host for VMs, containers and CEPH storage, nokkela.network for network security, nokkela.cloud for S3 storage and Nextcloud, nokkela.ai for AI consulting, nokkela.io for AI agents, nokkela.app for custom software, nokkela.group for established third-party products and nokkela.blog for articles.

Where is my data stored and what does digital sovereignty mean in practice?

Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH operates its own servers in Europe; customer data does not leave Europe and is not stored with US hyperscalers. In practice, digital sovereignty rests on three things: the hardware and the virtualisation layer stay under our own operational control, processing is GDPR-compliant, and the software stack is open-source-first. Customer data processed on Nokkela infrastructure is therefore subject to European law, not to the terms of a US cloud provider.

Is Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH ISO 27001 certified and what does NIS2 mean for the setup?

No – Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH is ISO-27001- and NIS2-oriented, not certified. Being oriented means that documentation, operating procedures and technical measures follow the structure of the ISO 27001 standard and the NIS2 directive, so a later certification or a NIS2 obligation can be approached without rebuilding the environment. For companies that fall under NIS2, Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH prepares the technical side: asset inventory, hardening, backup and recovery, logging, monitoring and incident handling.

How can we run an LLM in-house without our data leaving the company?

With on-premise AI the model and the data stay on your own hardware: Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH installs open-weights models on servers under your control, so prompts, documents and embeddings stay inside your network instead of going to an external API. A typical setup combines a GPU server, a local inference service and a retrieval index over your own documents. Where a hosted setup suits you better, the system runs on Nokkela's own infrastructure in Europe rather than with a US provider.

What is vendor lock-in and how does Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH avoid it?

Vendor lock-in is a dependency on one vendor's products that makes switching expensive – Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH therefore works independently of vendors and takes no vendor commissions. Lock-in is avoided at three levels: open-source-first software instead of proprietary suites, open interfaces such as S3 and open virtualisation formats instead of closed platforms, and custom software delivered under the MIT licence, so the customer receives the source code and is free to use, modify and pass it on. Established products such as those from Palo Alto Networks are used where they are technically the best fit.

How does working with Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH start and what does it cost?

Every engagement with Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH starts with a free initial consultation of up to 30 minutes; we usually reply to enquiries within one business day. That consultation is step one of four; an analysis of the current state, its risks and its potential follows, then a concept with costs and timeline, then delivery, training and ongoing support. There is no standard price list, because the scope determines the price – you receive a written cost estimate with the concept, before implementation begins.

Does Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH work with customers outside Germany?

Yes – Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH serves the German-speaking, Scandinavian and English-speaking markets from Kronach in Germany, with all infrastructure located in Europe. Consulting, documentation and support are provided in German and English, and every website in the group is published in both languages. For customers abroad this means one European contract partner under German law, with data processing carried out to GDPR standard on infrastructure in Europe.
